Get LiveTaxi... Get Hassle Free Ride : Launching in Thrissur.
'Live
Taxi' is a free android application and all you needs to do is click
Live Taxi app and select place to get service of a Taxi. And its
preparing and expected to hit our streets soon.
The LiveTaxi app is seen as an effective supporting tool for Taxi, Auto drivers and passengers, and consists of a number of functions which benefits common people around.
The
app aims at upliftment of the unorganized, and powerless group of Taxi
drivers in to an organized and powerful group of people.
And they Quotes their mission “For Accident Free Roads and Passenger Friendly Drivers!”
The Idea behind this app originated from the study conducted among the taxi drivers by their volunteers. It came to the conclusion that this section of society is exploited, economically backward, and not organized at all in order to win over their rights in society. There are drivers with tremendous capacities and talents, who can do a lot of good for society. But the only thing that remains underlined about them is that there is no one to guide them, to motivate them, to improve themselves, to appreciate them for the good deeds done by them. There is no one to put a new strength or power into them for their self growth, and to make them an integrated group of our society.
One of the first application which connects passengers with local Taxis and Auto Rickshaws. It offers a variety of functions, such as viewing list of Drivers, Locations, Operational status of Taxi drivers and Blood donation. You may use this app to find nearby drivers for a travel, Booking a Taxi for next day trip and you can mark driver as favorite for future rides.
It is very easy to contact an auto driver using Live Taxi app. Once the app is downloaded, you only have to select your place then the app will show the contact numbers of Taxi drivers who are available. By simply clicking on the number you will be connected to the Taxi driver.
And best part is its an offline application so that no internet or GPS is required. Live Taxi acts as a handy phonebook which can be used to connect Taxi, Auto Drivers and Blood donors around.
It aims at common people depends on local taxis and autos for daily transportation. Another important objective is Blood Donation. User can search for nearby blood donors and can contact them by sending message or by giving a call. It helps needy patients search for blood donors in their city or area.
So far around 400 drivers already registered with Live Taxi app and still counting. It links gap between local taxi to common people. The response and support received from Drivers and people around was even greater than expected. Many well wishers from different localities and streams came forward to be part of this noble venture.
Although the app is still under development they are planning to publish a beta version with minimum features within next few days. So that each user can check this app and can suggest valuable feedbacks and responses for stable version.
All future updates and messages are communicated through their facebook page ‘livetaxi.in’. A website (www.livetaxi.in) also has been created and now it’s under construction. Your valuable comments and suggestions can be mailed to info@livetaxi.in or you may post your views directly to their facebook page www.facebook.com/livetaxi.in

Where Earth Hour began
Earth Hour was launched in Sydney, Australia in 2007, where 2.2 million individuals
and more than 2,000 businesses turned their lights off for one hour. Just a year
later, Earth Hour reached 370 cities and towns in more than 35 countries across
18 time zones, and the campaign shifted from a ‘Sydney Event’ to a ‘Global
Sustainability Movement’. Since then, every year Earth Hour sets new standards
and breaks its own records on mass participation and support. 2010 received participation
from a record 1.3 billion individuals across 4616 cities in 128 countries globally.
Notable landmarks like Acropolis in Greece, Eiffel Tower in Paris, Hiroshima Peace
Gardens in Japan, and Pyramids in Egypt switched off in support.
2011 was a memorable year in the history of the campaign, as it marked a new phase, with supporters going beyond the hour by committing to sustainable action all year round. A record 1.8 billion individuals across more than 5200 cities in 135 countries participated by switching off lights, and pledging to imbibe environment friendly practices into everyday life to benefit the planet.

They have decided that, every month, one day's income of their auto will be utilised for helping the poorest of the society.

A driver called for a trip, reaching the destination, instead of getting trip amount, driver gives an amount to the passenger, seeing his pathetic situation !
Mr. Thomas P. T., a Sarathi driver from Angamaly south taxi stand, called for a trip by a person to take his paralysed daughter from the hospital to his home at Annamanada. When he reached the destination, he was moved by the pathetic situation of the family. Instead of receiving Rs.500, which the passenger gave for his trip, Mr. Thomas took Rs. 1,000 from the car and gave it to the man, saying "I have only this much to help you in this situation". All the family members of that poor family astonished at his noble act.

Activities of Sarathi
The help line for taxi drivers - at present comprises of three full-time volunteers
and three part-time volunteers who, to some extent, are supported and encouraged by some local friends and well-wishers. Sarathi concentrates its activities among thousands of taxi-cab drivers throughout Kerala and it is working on the following projects to ameliorate the lot of the taxi drivers in no small measure. 
Classes in Spoken English will be made accessible to the drivers, who, at present are very much handicapped by ignorance of the lingo, which is indispensable for communicating with foreign tourists as well as the majority of Indian tourists hailing from the different parts of India.
Education and training in etiquette and sociability which will render them appealing to their customers - be they foreign or Indian. As the majority of our drivers hail from interior Kerala villages they tend to be uncouth, having caught the harshness and tendency to violence that at present prevails
in some parts of our country. 
With the help of the Addon Horn company,Bangalore and some well-wishers, Sarathi has provided free accidental insurance policies worth rupees 25,000 to over 5000 taxi car drivers. And as more poor taxi drivers are queuing up for this scheme we need help from more sponsors.
Publication and distribution among all the drivers, of a monthly News Letter, named SARATHI -THE VOICE OF DRIVERS contains:-
a) suitable passages from the selected literary works of drivers.
b) Actual experiences of some drivers that might be a source of inspiration and
encouragement to other drivers.
c) Appropriate quiz competitions meant for drivers which will educate while entertaining.
d) Various informative and advisable articles for the drivers by people other than drivers.
With the generous help of the Siveri Automobile Co., Cochin, that has kindly agreed to sponsor the project, we now publish 10000 copies of the News Letter - SARATHI, up from 5000 copies in July 2000. With the help of more sponsors we hope to increase the number of copies, so that they reach all the taxi stands all over the state.
Finally we go from stand to stand, talking to and consientizing the drivers about the need of unity and mutual co-operation among them. We hope and pray that the Lord may inspire more generous individuals and companies to come forward to sponsor this very laudable project. And that he may bless and render fruitful our efforts.
